Homework

Homework is an essential part of the learning process and consolidates what is learned in lessons. Children access their homework tasks through Class Charts. It is visible on both the parent and child apps. It is important that all families sign up to Class Charts through the website or phone app.

We use Class Charts for the following homework purposes:

  • Instructions for homework tasks, including when they should be completed by.
  • Recording completion of homework tasks – both parents and children will be able to see what is logged by teachers.
  • Notifying parents of detentions - if a child misses a deadline without good reason, they will be set a homework detention on the day that the deadline was missed so that they can catch up on their work.

The amount of time we expect to be devoted to homework increases over time. Tasks can vary in length but most should take roughly half an hour to complete. Tasks will be set in line with the published homework timetable. Children will have roughly the following number of tasks to complete each week:

  • Year 7: 5
  • Year 8: 7
  • Year 9: 10
  • Year 10: 14
  • Year 11: 14

Pupils need to be given every encouragement to complete their homework in a quiet place where they are not disturbed and away from the distractions of modern life i.e. mobile phones, social media etc. If there are occasions when this proves difficult pupils are able to use our Aquinas Centre (the LRC).
